Caquatto Wins Pan Am All Around Gold

There must be something special about Caquatto DNA. Bridgette Caquatto became the 2011 Pan American Women’s Gymnastics All Around Champion today after helping her team win gold on Monday. Caquatto is the younger sister of Mackenzie Caquatto, a World silver medallist and current University of Florida gymnast. Guatemalan gymnast Ana Sofia Gomez won silver. Gomez, who qualified in first to the all around final, also competed at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Kristina Vaculik of Canada won the bronze. Vaculik won silver with the Canadian team on Monday. She competes for Stanford Gymnastics but is currently taking time off from school to train for London 2012.

On Thursday, Caquatto will compete in the uneven bars final, where she qualified in first. Both Vaculik and Gomez qualified for beam and floor finals and will compete on Friday. Day 1 of event finals begins tomorrow at 1pm CT.
