It’s finally here. The Secret US Classic, the first of three competitions to determine the US Women’s Gymnastics Team for London 2012, is this Saturday May 26.
Held at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, the Secret US Classic is the final opportunity for athletes to qualify to the national championships in June. Following the national championships, the national team will be named and those athletes will compete at the Olympic Trials for one of five spots on the Olympic team.
Although already qualified to the national championships, the entire 2011 World Championships team, save Alicia Sacramone, will compete at Classic. 2008 Olympic All Around Champion Nastia Liukin will compete bars and beam at the event, her first competition since 2009. Shawn Johnson, who has already qualified to the national championships, is not competing. The experienced gymnasts will be joined by several first year seniors hoping to make a good impression and qualify to the national championships.
The Secret US Classic will be broadcast live on Universal Sports and free online here at 5pm CT on May 26.
