Qualifiers: US Gymnastics Olympic Trials

The US National Teams for Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics were named at the conclusion of the Visa Championships. Athletes selected for the National Teams advance to the Olympic Trials. For the women, the top eight all around athletes at Nationals automatically qualified for the team and Trials. The selection committee then handpicked other athletes to join the team and compete at Trials. McKayla Maroney suffered a mild concussion during the warmups on the final day of Championships and did not compete. She petitioned the selection committee for a spot at Trials and her petition was accepted.

The Olympic Trials will determine the 5-member teams that will compete at the 2012 Olympics. The winner of the women’s competition will automatically qualify to the Games. The four remaining athletes and up to three alternates will be decided by the selection committee. The US Olympic Team for gymnastics will be announced at Trials.
